Summer is almost here: the sun is shining, exams are over, and everyone’s tanning in their backyards or on the beach. What I love most about summer is the different events I finally have time to attend. How do I vary my summer outfits for each occasion? Most women want their summer wardrobe to be full of three types of clothes: comfortable, light and loose. The problem is, because of those three important factors, everyone dresses the same for every occasion. No, not today, not you! Here are the 7 types of outfits that you need this Summer, inspired by Pinterest and Instagram.
1. Bikini + Cover-Up
This season’s bikini trends include geometric prints, cut-out swimsuits and sporty crop tops. If you’re more on the conservative side, or if you don’t feel like tanning, throw on a sheer silk cover-up like this one.
2. BBQ with friends
When the sun is out, so are the hotdogs, hamburgers and buns. If you want to look your best for your friend’s barbecue in July, you can put on a crisp white shirt tucked in a pair of cut-off denim shorts. When the sun goes down and the cool evening air brushes your skin, at least you’ll have long sleeves to keep you warm.
These days, everyone is going to some sort of festival. We all know what festival uniforms look like: flower crowns like Lana Del Rey, high-rise denim shorts and crop tops. This time, why don’t you stand out from the crowd and opt for an all-white lace ensemble like Raven Elyse is wearing?
I think we can all agree that ‘S’ is for Summer and for shopping. When you’re pushing through tourists and trying to grab the last bikini off the rack, you’re going to need to dress comfortably. You also need to show the other shoppers who’s boss, so look the part! Wear a comfortable knotted t-shirt like Natasha Ndlovu, a light pair of leggings and a snug pair of high heels to finish off the look.
5. Family Vacation
When you’re on vacation with the fam, you may have to put away the skimpy crop tops and mini skirts. Leave that for the weekend getaway you’re planning with your BFF’s and opt for a plain white t-shirt and a nice pair of cut-off denim shorts like Natasha Ndlovu. Don’t forget your sunglasses to shade your eyes while you enjoy family fun time!
6. Brunch Date
Who else loves brunch? I think we all do. Brunch is an excuse to dress up and eat as much as you want in one sitting. So make sure you’re ready, with a cute printed ensemble like RayeRaye and Patricia Bright. What’s even better, is that you can cover up your food baby with a high waisted skirt and the cool prints will camouflage all signs of gluttony.
7. Clubbing Night Out
Whether in Ibiza or in your home town, summer nights were made for partying. You never know who you’re going to meet or what you’ll end up doing, so be ready for anything with a matching crop top and mini skirt like Natural Neiicey. Finish off the look with lace-up heels and big hair, and off you go!
