WIWTW: London Oxfords in Camden

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

Last week, Sidney and I took a few days off to head to London (UK) for a weekend getaway. We stayed at my aunt’s in Feltham (she was the sweetest – thank you!) and visited Camden, Brick Lane, London center and more. We met so many stylish people so we took a dozen street-style shots for Garde Robe. (Stay tuned for the fabulous photos this weekend!)

Event: Visiting Camden Town

On our second day, we decided to head over to Camden Town because we heard that there were quite a few vintage shops there. We ended up spending the entire day there – there was so much to do, see, buy, eat, it was overwhelming. My favorite store was Urban Outfitters, but unfortunately I didn’t find exactly what I wanted.

did however, get a cute pair of oxford shoes from a Leather Boots and Shoes shop in Camden, for only £25.00 on sale! They’re so comfortable, they’re real leather and grey felt detail is very unique.

dsc_0067

I chose the rest of my outfit based on these shoes, so I decided to wear my white plush dress from Pull & Bear as a long t-shirt.

And then I wore my favorite bomber jacket in the world that I bought from Pull & Bear. It’s silky material is very soft and I especially love the delicate blush pink detail at the back. It reminds me of a kimono.

dsc_0056

When I got the bomber jacket, I just had to get these matching mirror sunglasses from Pull & Bear. And then I borrowed Sidney’s hat from Asos.

dsc_0107

dsc_0039

Finally, I chose this little black velvet/leather pouch to complete the minimalist look.

dsc_0134

We had so much fun in Camden. I mean, we did so much shopping and got great bargains from vintage stores like Rokit. We also took a picture with the Mad Hatter.

WIWTW: Teacher’s OOTD with a twist of color

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

As most of you may know by now, I started my teaching career a month ago. I am now a Middle School teacher, and it’s been such an amazing experience that I’m so grateful to be a part of. I get to teach kids things that they’ll remember their whole lives. What better job can I ask for?

But before I show you What I Wore This Week as a teacher, I’d like to thank my mother, my beautiful mother, for inspiring me to become the person I’ve always dreamed of being since I learned to read. Thank you Mommy for teaching me how to read, for teaching me Math, for helping us with homework every afternoon, for teaching me how to teach and how to love education. Thank you for helping other children become the best that they can be, through Vocabathon, through your volunteer work, through Sunday school, through business classes, English classes, typing classes that you’ve taught since you were my age. Thank you for giving me such a good example and for encouraging me to achieve what I want in life. Thank you and I love you forever.

Guys I love culottes and I love Zara. So when I found this cute pair of trousers at Zara, I didn’t even try them on, I paid €19.95 and declared they were mine. The colors give me life: the trendy orange-yellow-white-black stripes remind me of October. I just love how these statement pants flatter my skinny legs because they give me more volume.

dsc_0039

I got the turtleneck from Zara as well of course, and the heels (because I’m obsessed with a brand which people think I’m named after). These shoes match the colors of my culotte perfectly and I didn’t even buy them at the same time!

Also, stripes were really in these past F/W fashion weeks in NY and London, so I was excited to give them a try. I especially love the white and grey stripes detail on the turtleneck sleeves, which I cuffed for a little edge.

dsc_0072

Can we talk about this bag? This beautiful colorful statement bag that I found at New Look in Dubai? This was literally a one-time deal because I never saw this bag again. I knew I had to get it the second I saw it, and I’m glad I did because fast forward three months and I’ve got the matching pants!

dsc_0098

And yes guys, this is my real hair. This is not a joke. This is not a 70’s peace-and-love wig. This is my natural hair and it’s cute/scary/amazing how much I look like my mother when she was in her 20’s.

WIWTW: Distressed Jeans + Autumn Kimono

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

It’s not even Autumn yet and it’s already cold again. I wished so hard for it to stay sunny indefinitely, but like every year, I was disappointed. It suddenly went from being too hot to stay outside to being too cold to be out of my bed.

dsc_0003

Event: Late lunch & Shopping

I’ve always found it tricky to dress up distressed jeans during summer time, so I had been holding out on wearing these ripped jeans from Stradivarius until it got cooler. Now, before I get into how I styled them, here’s why ripped jeans are a thing now:

-They’re so EDGY. If distressed jeans were a person, they’d be that one moody sarcastic kid you saw around in high school. They’re fashion’s way of saying: so what if I’m ripped, I’m still a pair of pants, and I’m awesome AF.

-They can be SEXY. They really can, if the rips are in the right places (above the knees, for example), your distressed jeans will make heads turn.

-They can DRESS DOWN your look. If you’re wearing a chic shirt with a pair of heels, but you’re heading to class or an evening out with the girls, ripped jeans are the perfect fit.

For this outfit, I chose to wear a pair of blush-pink espadrille flats so my shoes wouldn’t take away the attention from the other vibrant colors.

dsc_0043

Then I chose this grey turtleneck from H&M and paired it with my new favorite drape-cape-thingy-majiggy (what is this even called, it’s not a poncho or a cardigan?) that I got from H&M as well. I’m going to call it a cape. I LOVE capes like this because they can be worn on hot days (with a tank top and shorts) or chilly days (with long sleeves and pants). I especially love the Autumn colors, they’re so vibrant and perfect for this season. I’ll be wearing this cape with black, white, brown, grey, khaki and mustard colored clothes.

dsc_0030

And y’all already know about my cute black pouch from Zara, it’s half faux leather and half faux suede.

WIWTW: End of Summer outfit with a bandeau and trousers

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

After spending the weekend in Annecy with my BFF’s I came back to Lyon and it was 35°C. This is called a canicule in French, when the Sun reminds you about global warming. When you’re transitioning from Summer to Fall your wardrobe can sometimes get a little stale. So you venture out to buy last minute summer clothes, but to your shock: the sales have ended, so the summer collection is gone. You’re left with sweaters and sparkly NYE dresses. What do you do?

dfc8cfa55982a47928e26db05d20c01d.jpg

You find this season’s Autumn color palette and you are bound to find t-shirts, formal tops and slinky dresses. Designers have a trick I’ve noticed: they tend to keep the summer trends that worked the most by adding Autumn colors (like rusty brown, mustard yellow, red, camel and khaki) to their Fall collection. That way, people will still buy “summer clothes” that are suitable for September.

Event: Good-bye Party

Version 2

Friday was the type of the hot day you’d spend in your lightest undergarments in front of the fan. Except that I had to go to a friend’s good-bye party and I didn’t know what to wear, until I found this rust-colored bandeau from Pull & Bear. It’s made of light cotton material and its color is perfect for the warm pre-autumn days.

I paired this top with my comfy white trousers from Zara. They really dressed-up the bandeau, turning this into the perfect summer party outfit. Keeping the same autumn palette, I chose my beige sandal heels from Just Fab.

And this handmade African-print bag that my mother gave me.

WIWTW in the Maldives: Little Black One-piece

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

This week, my parents surprised us with a vacation INSIDE a vacation (inceptacation) by bringing us to the Maldives for their 30th anniversary! We stayed on the Hulhumale island, exploring the nearby capital Male and the beautiful beaches surrounding the exotic location.

DSC_0349

The first thing I wanted to do with my sister Safiya, was to test the waters and go swimming in the clear blue ocean.

DSC_0335

Event: Beach Day in Hulhumale

DSC_0326

Because the Maldives is a Muslim country, there are certain customs that we had to respect at this particular Hulhumale beach: no bikinis. They have dedicated “bikini beaches” and resorts for tourists, but it just so happened that our island didn’t have one yet. I had absolutely no problem with following these rules, because we were the guests. (Please be mindful of this, whenever you visit a foreign country: be respectful of their culture.)

DSC_0330

Every girl needs that one swimsuit that will still be flattering no matter how much vacation food she ate, and this is mine, from Etam.

DSC_0344

DSC_0336

I paired this swimsuit with a cute printed cover-up from Jennyfer and my Fendi sunglasses.

And finally, these platform sandals from H&M‘s Divided collection finished off the look. These are really confortable, but I suggest you buy one size bigger than your normal size because H&M shoes tend to size smaller than usual.

WIWTW: Printed Culotte in Dubai

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

This week I’m in DUBAI with my family!!! I’ll tell you about that in another post, but let me just say how amazing it is to be with my parents, siblings, sister-in-law and baby nephew in one of the coolest cities on Earth. I wouldn’t trade it for the world :)

DSC_0272

Event: Lunch with friends at Dubai Marina

I know, I’m obsessed with off-the-shoulders tops but that’s because they look good on broad shoulders. Also I was feeling particularly feminine so I went for this cute ruffled top from Zara. I also borrowed my mom’s earrings she got in Beijing for a vintage feel.

DSC_0095

And then these culotte pants from Zara also, are to die for, because I got them on sale and they were the last pair! The floral print is so elegant, and the navy blue tassels give the vintage feminine vibe that I was going for.

DSC_0101

And finally my mother gave me these cute burgundy heels from JustFab that go perfectly with the burgundy accents of the culotte pants.
