WIWTW: Styling Timberlands in Chicago

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

Over Christmas break, my sister Safiya and I got to spend some time with one of our brothers Roshan, in Chicago. I had never been there before so I was really excited to discover such a huge city. I loved it so much and I would be ecstatic to go again. Apart from meeting some of the most down-to-earth and interesting people I’ve ever met, I visited Cloud Gate by Anish Kapoor (my artist sister insists that I call it as such, but most people know it by its nickname ‘The Bean’). Downtown Chicago is beautiful and the skyline is breathtaking. As an overseas American who hasn’t visited much of the USA, I felt like a tourist, taking in every mesmerizing scene in front of me.

We met some pretty cool Uber drivers but we also did a lot of walking. And you know what’s made for walking? ‘These boots’. (See what I did there?)

Event: Sight-seeing in Chicago

Raise your hand if you’ve ever wanted to buy Timberlands but saw way too many people wearing them. *raises hand* I’m a part of this group, but then I changed my mind: they’re comfortable, they give an urban edge to everything, and they really were made for walking. I got them in just the right color for Christmas: the original yellowish ones, because they really just go with everything. I have enough black shoes in my closet, so I wanted something different from my own wardrobe.

dsc_0035

I wore my light blue mom jeans from Stradivarius (I got them on sale for €10.00 when I was in Dubai this summer!) and my all-time-favorite sweater by Puma. This is not just any Puma sweater. This is a chunky, 90’s cut, sweater from Rihanna’s collaboration with Puma “Fenty x PUMA by Rihanna”, that I got in a beautiful shop in Milan called Minus More Much. It’s one of my most favorite things to wear because it’s so unique. I personally haven’t seen anybody else with it though I’m sure there are many other Rihanna fans walking around with it somewhere. Idc, this is my favorite sweater in the world. It’s comfortable and the gold shiny “9” at the front gives my outfit an athletic feel.

Because it was pretty cold in Chicago, I got to wear my puffy padded jacket from H&M. You can’t really see how well-shaped it is here, but gives my entire look some volume.

You already know my black faux leather pouch from Zara, but here are my gorgeous Timbs.

In the midst of this photoshoot (taken by Safiya), two guys tried to ask my sister to prom. When she proceeded to tell them that she doesn’t live in Chicago, one of them even offered to buy her a plane ticket and fly her out for prom. He was so serious that he decided he should take our picture, and I promised to share his photography skills on my blog so here you go, sir:

Ideas for a Last Minute Holiday Look

It’s CHRISTMAS EVE already ! 2016 has gone by so fast, it’s crazy to think that it’s almost over. I found out a few months ago that I’d be in Chicago for the Christmas holidays, and here I am, in Chicago. Walking along Michigan Avenue, I came across Bonobos, this classy men’s clothing store. When I saw those tailored suits and sophisticated dress pants, my first thought was: Sidney (my sweetheart) would totally wear this. Most people would prefer not to buy clothes for their significant other, but when your S/O is more into fashion than you are, and when he looks THIS good in a suit, why not?!

So now that you have a last minute Christmas gift for your partner, what are YOU wearing? Here are some of my favorite holiday looks to help you sleigh (get it lol) this Christmas season:

Cozy Caroling

If you’re planning to stay indoors with your family or partner, sipping hot cocoa. This one’s for you.

cozy

Sparkly & Sophisticated

I’m not a huge fan of sequins, so I would totally wear THIS outfit for a holiday party that requires shiny gold attire!

 sparkly

Extravagant Eve

When in doubt, be extravagant. Flaunt your favorite part of yourself: legs, toned abs, cleavage or shoulders.

extravagant

Underneath the Mistletoe

If you’re spending Christmas with your S/O or going to a NYE party with your beau, burgundy red is always romantic.

romantic

Minimal Magic

Sometimes you just want to wear something minimal and sophisticated. Black is a great go-to, and opt for bare shoulders for a sexy twist.

minimal

Something Blue

Surprisingly blue is this season’s best color. Did you know that the color blue has also been proven to get you the most likes on Social Media? Yep. Wear blue for your holiday photos.

White Christmas

And finally… you can never go wrong with an all white outfit for Christmas. Be like Queen Solange Knowles and wear a white gown with gold highlights (and a natural afro if you have one!) like she did on her wedding day.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays & Happy New Year !

WIWTW: Winter Stripes

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

A month has gone by and I no longer wear t-shirts under my coat without a sweater on top, like a naive little girl. Now I’ve realized it’s cold, and after two weeks of being sick, I went out to buy a warm sweater or three.

winter-stripes18

Event: It was really cold

I think that the most important part of your winter wardrobe should be your outer clothes (as in your coat, scarf, gloves, etc) because the key to staying warm and stylish is fashionable layering.

winter-stripes26

Between Autumn and Winter, there are really good sales on pieces that are usually expensive, like coats and sweaters. I found this boyfriend coat at Promod, a chic French clothing store. It’s actually navy but depending on what I pair it with, it can look dark grey or even black. I got this one 50% off because it was on sale!

winter-stripes15

Stripes are back this season, so I decided to get a minimal “statement” scarf at New Look. Because it’s black and grey, it goes with everything and it’s the size of a small blanket so it’s very warm. I got 10% off with my student card!

winter-stripes03

Unfortunately you can’t really see, but I’m wearing faux leather pants from Zara, that I’ve been dying to show you in a WIWTW. They are comfortable, high-waisted and instantly turn any outfit classy!

winter-stripes42

And then I got this comfortable (feels like cashmere) camel sweater from Zara, along with three other cheap-priced sweaters. I chose to wear this camel coloured sweater to lighten up my winter outfit and compliment my brown lipstick from New Look (10% off with student discount).

winter-stripes34

And I love these Zara sock boots! Kanye West’s Yeezy collection made sock boots popular this season. I especially adore this trend because I have very thin ankles that usually float around in regular boots. Sock boots are designed to be tight around your ankles, making your legs look thinner and longer. I also got this faux leather bag from Zara to match my shoes.

WIWTW: Street & Pink

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

I am the most feminine girl you will ever meet. My favorite color is pink. (I collected porcelain and Barbie dolls when I was little.) But I also love comfort, especially in Autumn. And what’s more comfortable than men’s clothes? So I mixed the two and created this:

WIWTW: London Oxfords in Camden

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

Last week, Sidney and I took a few days off to head to London (UK) for a weekend getaway. We stayed at my aunt’s in Feltham (she was the sweetest – thank you!) and visited Camden, Brick Lane, London center and more. We met so many stylish people so we took a dozen street-style shots for Garde Robe. (Stay tuned for the fabulous photos this weekend!)

dsc_0032

Event: Visiting Camden Town

On our second day, we decided to head over to Camden Town because we heard that there were quite a few vintage shops there. We ended up spending the entire day there – there was so much to do, see, buy, eat, it was overwhelming. My favorite store was Urban Outfitters, but unfortunately I didn’t find exactly what I wanted.

did however, get a cute pair of oxford shoes from a Leather Boots and Shoes shop in Camden, for only £25.00 on sale! They’re so comfortable, they’re real leather and grey felt detail is very unique.

dsc_0067

I chose the rest of my outfit based on these shoes, so I decided to wear my white plush dress from Pull & Bear as a long t-shirt.

And then I wore my favorite bomber jacket in the world that I bought from Pull & Bear. It’s silky material is very soft and I especially love the delicate blush pink detail at the back. It reminds me of a kimono.

dsc_0056

When I got the bomber jacket, I just had to get these matching mirror sunglasses from Pull & Bear. And then I borrowed Sidney’s hat from Asos.

dsc_0107

dsc_0039

Finally, I chose this little black velvet/leather pouch to complete the minimalist look.

dsc_0134

We had so much fun in Camden. I mean, we did so much shopping and got great bargains from vintage stores like Rokit. We also took a picture with the Mad Hatter.

WIWTW: Teacher’s OOTD with a twist of color

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

As most of you may know by now, I started my teaching career a month ago. I am now a Middle School teacher, and it’s been such an amazing experience that I’m so grateful to be a part of. I get to teach kids things that they’ll remember their whole lives. What better job can I ask for?

But before I show you What I Wore This Week as a teacher, I’d like to thank my mother, my beautiful mother, for inspiring me to become the person I’ve always dreamed of being since I learned to read. Thank you Mommy for teaching me how to read, for teaching me Math, for helping us with homework every afternoon, for teaching me how to teach and how to love education. Thank you for helping other children become the best that they can be, through Vocabathon, through your volunteer work, through Sunday school, through business classes, English classes, typing classes that you’ve taught since you were my age. Thank you for giving me such a good example and for encouraging me to achieve what I want in life. Thank you and I love you forever.

dsc_0077

Guys I love culottes and I love Zara. So when I found this cute pair of trousers at Zara, I didn’t even try them on, I paid €19.95 and declared they were mine. The colors give me life: the trendy orange-yellow-white-black stripes remind me of October. I just love how these statement pants flatter my skinny legs because they give me more volume.

dsc_0039

I got the turtleneck from Zara as well of course, and the heels (because I’m obsessed with a brand which people think I’m named after). These shoes match the colors of my culotte perfectly and I didn’t even buy them at the same time!

Also, stripes were really in these past F/W fashion weeks in NY and London, so I was excited to give them a try. I especially love the white and grey stripes detail on the turtleneck sleeves, which I cuffed for a little edge.

dsc_0072

Can we talk about this bag? This beautiful colorful statement bag that I found at New Look in Dubai? This was literally a one-time deal because I never saw this bag again. I knew I had to get it the second I saw it, and I’m glad I did because fast forward three months and I’ve got the matching pants!

dsc_0098

And yes guys, this is my real hair. This is not a joke. This is not a 70’s peace-and-love wig. This is my natural hair and it’s cute/scary/amazing how much I look like my mother when she was in her 20’s.

WIWTW: Distressed Jeans + Autumn Kimono

Hey guys! Welcome to another What I Wore This Week post, where I feature an outfit I wore during the week, the occasion and how I styled it.

It’s not even Autumn yet and it’s already cold again. I wished so hard for it to stay sunny indefinitely, but like every year, I was disappointed. It suddenly went from being too hot to stay outside to being too cold to be out of my bed.

dsc_0003

Event: Late lunch & Shopping

I’ve always found it tricky to dress up distressed jeans during summer time, so I had been holding out on wearing these ripped jeans from Stradivarius until it got cooler. Now, before I get into how I styled them, here’s why ripped jeans are a thing now:

-They’re so EDGY. If distressed jeans were a person, they’d be that one moody sarcastic kid you saw around in high school. They’re fashion’s way of saying: so what if I’m ripped, I’m still a pair of pants, and I’m awesome AF.

-They can be SEXY. They really can, if the rips are in the right places (above the knees, for example), your distressed jeans will make heads turn.

-They can DRESS DOWN your look. If you’re wearing a chic shirt with a pair of heels, but you’re heading to class or an evening out with the girls, ripped jeans are the perfect fit.

For this outfit, I chose to wear a pair of blush-pink espadrille flats so my shoes wouldn’t take away the attention from the other vibrant colors.

dsc_0043

Then I chose this grey turtleneck from H&M and paired it with my new favorite drape-cape-thingy-majiggy (what is this even called, it’s not a poncho or a cardigan?) that I got from H&M as well. I’m going to call it a cape. I LOVE capes like this because they can be worn on hot days (with a tank top and shorts) or chilly days (with long sleeves and pants). I especially love the Autumn colors, they’re so vibrant and perfect for this season. I’ll be wearing this cape with black, white, brown, grey, khaki and mustard colored clothes.

dsc_0030

And y’all already know about my cute black pouch from Zara, it’s half faux leather and half faux suede.
